Mailii Su - Picture series

Picture 5

Picture showing tailings pile #5

Description

Tailings pile #5, where we stand on, is located upstream the Mailii Su river. The picture shows the clay cover (partly covered with gras on the right side) and the dam, which is stabilized with a cover of stones. Collected water from the surface of the clay cover is collected in a concrete structure on the left side of the dam. Mailii Su river flows behind the dam, about 10 m deeper, from left to the right. The mountain on the other side of the river shows deep erosion from huge earth-and-mud movements into the narrow valley. More and probably massive earth movements at this hill are to be expected in the near future. Such masses could block the river flow, with the dam structures of #5 and #7 in the possible danger zone.
