Mailii Su - Picture series
Picture showing the Mailii Su River below tailings dump #5
This shows the Mailii Su River right below tailings dump #5.
This narrow part of the river could be blocked by a possible earth-and-mud-flow caused by heavy rainfall on the upper part of the mountains to the left. At the end of the winter the river has more flow than at this time of the year (early summer) due to melting snow from the high mountains upstream.
A blocked river at this time would eventually cause river water to reach the dam structures of the tailings dams #5 and #7. Radioactive tails would then enter the river water, would be washed into the sediments and distributed along the river.
