Picture showing the former first uranium mill

Description

This is the former uranium mill, the buildings now used as a cable isolation company. This is located downstream Mailii Su river, not far from the city.
Uranium ore was found in the surrounding mountains, e.g. in the mountain shown on the right in the far background of the picture. This ore was - together with other ores from East Germany, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia and China - brought to this mill and uranium was extracted using sulfuric acid. The fine grained ore remainder was neutralized with chalk (forming gypsum) and dumped onto the 23 different tailings piles in the area.
