Description

This is tailings dump #3, made out of the most radioactive ore imported from Saxony (Germany). The tails are covered with clay. The picture was taken from the dam of the dump.
Water from the surrounding mountains has washed deep creeks into the clay cover already. The tree's roots also cause degradation of the cover, leading to elevated radon exhalation from out of the covered ore tails. Parts of the mountains behind the tailings dump might slide onto the tails in case of seismic activity, well known and very frequent in this area.
